Everything you'd want to know before your first visit
Real answers about how coaching works, what it costs, and how we keep your joints safe — whether we're training together in Toronto or fully online.
Training at our Bloor West gym
What actually happens on my first visit to the gym?
+
There's no front desk or waiting room — I'll meet you at the door. The first fifteen minutes are a real conversation about your history, injuries, and what you're hoping to change. From there we move into a hands-on screen where I watch how you squat, hinge, press, and rotate. You leave with an honest read on your body and, if it feels like a fit, a proposed plan for what training would look like. Nothing is booked in that visit unless you want it to be.
How do you protect my joints during training if I've had past injuries?
+
Live coaching, every rep — verbal cues alongside manual, hands-on adjustments. A collapsing shoulder, a hip that's shifting, a knee tracking off-line: those get caught in the moment, before they turn into pain. An app on a screen can't do that. Load is added slowly, and only once the pattern is genuinely clean under lighter weight.
Is your Bloor West gym easy to get to from downtown or the west end?
+
The gym sits at 2100 Bloor St W, roughly two minutes on foot from Runnymede Station and about fifteen minutes on the subway from downtown. If you drive, Riverview Gardens has free street parking and there's paid parking along Bloor. Most clients come straight from work in the Financial District or from home in Bloor West Village, High Park, The Junction, and Roncesvalles.
How is one-on-one training here different from working with a big-box gym trainer?
+
Nothing about the setup resembles a commercial gym. Sessions are private — no floor traffic, no shared attention, no rotating trainers between visits. You work with a kinesiologist who knows your full movement and medical history, in a space built for coaching rather than for looking busy, on programming that's clinical and progressive instead of a generic circuit rotation.
What does an in-person session cost and how are packages structured?
+
Pricing sits at the premium end for private coaching with a kinesiologist, and everything is sold as monthly packages built around how many times per week you train. On your discovery visit I'll walk through the exact tiers so you can pick the one that fits your goals and schedule — most clients start at two sessions per week.
How quickly will I feel a difference in my body?
+
Meaningful drops in day-to-day stiffness and pain usually show up inside the first four to six weeks. The bigger shifts — posture, strength under load, real confidence in the body — tend to land around the twelve-week mark. Progress is tracked at each reassessment so it never becomes a guessing game.
What if my physio or doctor has cleared me but I still feel fragile?
+
This is exactly the handoff we're built for. Physio and chiro get you out of the acute phase; the next chapter is rebuilding strength, mobility, and enough confidence to actually trust the joint again — done at the pace, load, and movement scope your provider has cleared.
What should I wear and do I need to bring anything?
+
Athletic clothes you can move in and clean indoor shoes. Everything else — equipment, water, towels, mobility tools — is on site. If you've got imaging, past assessment notes, or a note from your physio, forward it ahead of time and I'll build it into the plan.

How does the online coaching relationship actually work week to week?
+
Each block lands in the coaching app with your programmed sessions, video demos, target loads, and rest times already dialled in. You train, log everything, and film short clips of the key lifts. I review the clips, send written and video feedback, and adjust the next block based on what actually happened. We touch base weekly — either by message or a short call, whichever suits your rhythm.
What if I only have dumbbells at home, or I travel a lot for work?
+
Programming is built around whatever you actually have that week — a fully kitted gym, a bench and a pair of dumbbells, a resistance band and a hotel room, or nothing but the floor and a wall. If your equipment or setting shifts, exercises get swapped so momentum never stalls.
How is this different from a downloaded app plan or a YouTube program?
+
Templates are written for the average person; your body isn't average. Every exercise, load, and progression is chosen for your movement quality, injury history, and goals — and updated as those change. When form drifts (and it always does), a real coach catches it. An algorithm can't.
I'm nervous about filming my own form. How much video do I actually need to send?
+
One clean set of your two or three heaviest or most technical lifts each week — usually ten to twenty seconds, filmed from the side. That's enough to catch what needs adjusting. Most clients shoot with a phone propped against a water bottle; nothing well-lit or produced is expected.
How fast do you turn around video feedback and messages?
+
Video reviews go back within one business day, and most inside a few hours. Weekday direct messages get a same-day reply so you're never sitting on a question mid-session.
What does online coaching cost and how long am I locked in?
+
Billing is monthly, with tiers stepped by how much video review and messaging support you want. There's no long lock-in — you can pause between blocks or shift to in-person if you're in Toronto. Exact pricing gets walked through on your free discovery call so the tier can be matched to your goals.
I've tried programs on my own and lost motivation. How is this different?
+
The accountability here isn't a push-notification nudge — it's a coach who knows your name, your kids' schedule, and the injury you've been working around for two years. Weekly check-ins, a message when a session slips, and programming that flexes with your real week are what actually keep people consistent through busy seasons.
What does the free discovery call look like?
+
Forty-five minutes on video. We go through your history, current pain, goals, weekly schedule, and available equipment, and I take you through a couple of light movement screens on camera. By the end you'll have a real picture of what a program for you would look like — whether or not we end up working together.
